Talk about roughing it! Cigarettes are $0.50/pack, but the cheapest white wine is $20/bottle. I've resorted to mojitos.
But seriously, I found out very few people have hot water in their houses - even in the city. Granted it's 90 degrees here most of the year so the water doesn't get that cold and I suppose a hot shower would be overkill in this weather. I do feel rather silly now for expecting a hot tub at the hotel.
I also question the Spanish's past decisions on updating the city's infrastructure. Because there isn't a centralized water and sewer system, people are still use wells causing parts of central Manila to sink. Some neighborhoods are actually below sea level now and turn into ponds during rainy season. Rough!
That's sounds like an awesome experience!
